About Refugee Congress:

Refugee Congress is a national, nonpartisan advocacy organization built and led by refugees/former refugees and asylees/asylum seekers. Our mission is to promote the well-being, integration and dignity of all refugees, asylees/asylum seekers and other vulnerable migrants in the US. With Delegates in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, we use our voices and experiences to inform and influence decision-makers on critical domestic and international issues that affect our communities.

Position Summary:

The Administrative Assistant will work under the supervision of the Executive Director and will work other staff and consultants on specific tasks. This is a part-time position for approximately 2 days/16 hours per week at $20/hour without benefits, with the possibility for increased time in the future. This position is technically an employee of Refugee Congress’ fiscal sponsor, Church World Service. Preference for candidates located in the Greater Washington DC Region, though candidates based in other locations in the U.S. will be considered.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and submit monthly expense reports and requests for reimbursement.
• Prepare and submit requests for member mini-grants and/or reimbursements.
• Arrange travel and other logistics for in-person meetings and conferences attended by staff and members.
• Assist with updating contact lists (members, donors, partners) and listservs.
• Assist with updating lists of grants received, reporting requirements and deadlines.
• Communicate with members to collect missing information such as forms, surveys, contact information, etc.
• Assist with communications needs such as formatting materials and updating information on the website as needed.
• Help organize and maintain internal shared drive, including photo storage.
• Research and compile resources on current refugee-related topics and policies.
• Other administrative duties as assigned.

Skills, Experience, Qualities

The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of paid or volunteer work experience in an administrative position and possess the following skills and qualities:

• Strong attention to detail and organization.
• Ability to juggle multiple tasks and reprioritize tasks as needed.
• Strong proficiency in using Microsoft Office suite (word, excel, powerpoint) and/or Google Docs; knowledge of Airtable and accounting software preferred but not required.
• Fluency in English required; knowledge of additional languages a plus.
• Comfort with and enthusiasm for working in a multicultural environment.
• Strong written communication skills.
• Strong mathematical skills.
