GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision in one of the municipality’s warehouses, the Warehouse Technician is responsible for various duties to ensure the inventory, organization, and control of the movement of materials, supplies, and other equipment for use by municipal departments.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Receive and track inventory items and various materials/equipment including but not limited to parts, machinery, playground equipment, office supplies, furniture, and consumables.
Process inventory items for individual re-issue to municipal customers.
Transport supplies, equipment, and parts to various work locations as needed.
Operate and monitor the condition of the warehouse equipment and tools, which includes but is not limited to, skid steers, forklifts, palette jacks, chain cutters, and various hand tools.
Perform heavy lifting to offload trucks, stock shelves, deliver products, and break down skids.
Direct and control traffic in and out of warehouse and log all incoming and outgoing materials.
Maintain the parts room and supplies and monitoring stock levels for re-order or performing year end cycle counts.
Complete data entry, pick and process orders and maintain delivery logbook and stock requisitions; ensuring to keep accurate records of weigh bills, requisitions, invoices and purchase orders (POs).
Handle return shipments, damage claims, and incomplete POs.
Assist with sourcing out and generating new parts sales.
Follow up on vendor delivery receipts and vendor pickups of critical orders.
Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of the warehouse daily.
Provide customer service with carry-outs and answer enquiries in person and on phone.
Write inventory list requirements that are sent to vendors for quotes.
Verify packing slips against materials, composing monthly reports for, and checking POs electronically to
see where items need to be delivered.
Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
High degree of attention to detail and accuracy.
Proficient knowledge of computer programs and systems (i.e. Windows, Microsoft Office, inventory control software, SAP).
Experience using computerized inventory systems or maintenance management software.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines and completing repetitive tasks.
Strong multitasking skills and the ability to manage a high volume of requests simultaneously.
Knowledge and proficiency in applicable occupational health and safety regulations and appropriate use of personal protective equipment.
Ability and willingness to acquire and maintain a valid forklift certification as required.
Proven customer service, communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
Proficient reading skills and strong hand-eye coordination.
General math and numeracy skills.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
Two (2) years of experience working in a parts, warehouse, or material management environment is required.
WHMIS, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Forklift Certification and First Aid Certification are assets.
Experience in mechanics, equipment operations, and ERP information systems is an asset.
Training and experience related to warehouse operations and inventory control are assets.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to provide a Criminal Record Check for review and acceptance.
A valid Class five (5) Operator’s Licence is required as incumbent will be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business use on a regular basis.
Must be medically and physically able to perform all duties of the position on an ongoing basis.
