RCIL is looking for an organized, outgoing, motivated, passionate, fun-loving, creative individual to work with youth with disabilities in Lyon, Osage and eventually Coffey counties as they achieve their goals to become independent adults. Facilitate our youth group, be involved in community groups and events, work with educators, family members, perform outreach activities plus work one-on-one and in small groups to assist with education, employment, transportation, recreation, housing, social skills, budgeting, etc. goals setting and achievement. The Youth Transition Specialist is responsible for advocating and delivering the core services of independent living including independent living skills training, peer counseling, information and referral services, individual and systems advocacy, and transition / deinstitutionalization to youth with disabilities between the ages of 14-24 years of age in the assigned service area (Lyon, Osage and Coffey counties). The position requires knowledge and delivery of the five core services of independent living. The position also requires knowledge of disability issues, the independent living philosophy, and other disability services available in the state of Kansas. The Youth Transition Specialist shall focus his/her work complimentary to the spirit and intent of the independent living philosophy. Can be a full-time or part-time position and work from RCIL’s office in Emporia or Osage City.
