We are currently looking for a Electrical Engineer – Control Systems & Automation (Automation Analyst) to provide technical advice and assistance to site maintenance, engineering and operational teams on technology selection and strategic direction.

Reporting to the Automation Lead and working in a challenging and exciting environment within the Improvement and technology team, you will:

• Assist in the definition and development of the systems and supporting infrastructure needed to sustain and improve site Automation & Control Systems.
• Assist in development and deployment of next-generation control systems and upcoming technology such as vision systems, AI, analytics and APC system.
• Contribute to the site obsolescence strategy and tactics for PLCs, HMIs, SCADA and other systems.
• Provide technical support for, and development of the systems and supporting tools, required for compliance with Rio Tinto D6 Process Safety and D7 Functional Safety Standards.
• Deliver specific strategic objectives or projects as directed by the Automation & Control Systems Superintendent (Automation Lead).
• Manage the updating of applicable internal standards, as well as the review and adoption of external standards (e.g. AS/NZS, IEC).
• Define and develop the processes needed for Quality Assurance of control system development and modification

What you’ll bring

• A high commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
• Degree in Electrical/Mechatronics or related Engineering (or relevant industry experience and a willingness to work towards equivalent qualifications)
• Industrial PCS experience, preferably in Honeywell Process (Experion PKS) solutions
• Industrial PLC experience, preferably in Rockwell PLC5 and ControlLogix solutions
• Industrial systems integration & software engineering, preferable OPC DA/UA, FactoryTalk, Experion PKS
• Developing and maintaining Electrical and Control Systems engineering standards
• Experience and Qualifications in Functional Safety (process/machine) preferred

Where you’ll be working

Opened in 1982, Boyne Smelters Limited is Australia’s second largest aluminium smelter with a 1,000-person strong workforce. Located approximately 20 kilometres south east of Gladstone at Boyne Island on the Central Queensland coast, BSL produces around 500,000 tonnes of aluminium per annum.

Activities at BSL include manufacturing carbon anodes in the carbon plant, aluminium production (smelting) in reduction lines, and casting of molten material into aluminium products ready to ship. The smelter is connected via a conveyor belt to the Queensland Alumina Limited refinery for the supply of alumina.
