Tradesperson Electrical – HV
About the role
All progress begins with pioneers. At Rio Tinto, it begins with you.
We have an opening for a High Voltage Maintainer/Rectifier Control Officer (RCO) to join our Power Supply team at NZAS, Tiwai (Invercargill). The successful applicant will be maintaining NZAS high voltage assets to maximise equipment availability and minimise disruption to production lines and have an interest in working within the HV Industry.
As part of a close-knit team, initially you will work as a Tradesperson Electrical undertaking regular planned maintenance and HV Switching in a high voltage switchyard. Training to become an RCO will commence simultaneously while in the HV Electrical Maintainer role, as advised by your Supervisor. Therefore, we are looking for someone who is capable and willing to train as an RCO as required.
This position will operate on our Roster 2 shift consisting of a 4-on/4-off rotation (2 x 12-hours days, 2 x 12-hour nights, 4 days off) which attracts a generous shift allowance provision.
In addition to paying competitively and providing great benefits packages, we want you to live the lifestyle that is right for you and your family. Due to our size and scale, there are many opportunities to learn, grow and do more than you ever thought possible.
Every hour of every shift, your safety and wellbeing is our number one priority. We do the work only if it is safe, and we invest to make sure every member of the team has the quality tools they need to do their job.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a team who work well together, and who take pride in providing a high quality and efficient service.

Active in the sector for more than 110 years, today we operate large-scale, high-quality bauxite mines and alumina refineries, and have the world’s most modern and competitive aluminium smelter portfolio.
Our Pacific Operations sites are located along the east coast of Australia, at the tip of the Northern Territory and in New Zealand’s south. With more than 6,000 employees, we operate a full value chain approach—mining, refining and smelting. Our portfolio includes four bauxite mines, two refineries, four smelters and one power station, and is supported by technical experts located in our Brisbane hub, including a fully operational Operations Centre for our bauxite mines.
Invercargill, New Zealand’s southernmost city is the commercial hub of Southland.
