We have an exciting opportunity for a Casual Education Officer experienced in working with pre-school children in EYFS as well as outdoor settings to join the RSPCA Mallydams Wood Education Centre to assist with the development and delivery of animal welfare education sessions and activities for pre-school children.

In 1961 the late Horace Quick (1891 – 1966), a local artist and wildlife enthusiast, gave Mallydams Wood to us so that the woodland could benefit wildlife.

To help us carry out Horace’s wishes we built a small wildlife rehabilitation centre and, since the doors opened more than 50 years ago, over 35,000 sick, injured and orphaned wild animals have been treated at the centre.

The education programme comprises ambitious, innovative, community projects that aim to nurture and encourage kindness and compassion towards all animals and embed long lasting positive animal welfare messages in the community.

We are looking for a committed, enthusiastic person with experience working in community EYFS settings supporting a wide range of pre-school children and an ability to network within the community, build strong working relationships and inspire a new generation of children to be kind to animals.

What you will be doing:

• Developing and delivering outreach sessions in EYFS settings throughout the community as well as taster sessions on site at RSPCA Mallydams Wood
• Contributing towards the development, monitoring and evaluation of educational resources and programmes to ensure high quality learning is maintained
• Maintaining high standards of health and safety and child/vulnerable adult safeguarding through understanding and adherence to education and society policies and procedures
• Promoting the work of the centre to children’s organisations as well as the general public and the wider community
• Working flexibly on weekdays, and on occasion within school holidays, at evenings and weekends

You will have:

• Teaching/Early Years work qualification or equivalent experience of working with children in relevant settings
• Experience of working in outdoor education, with evidence of practical skills
• Experience in delivering/assisting with public facing community events
• Experience of community networking or building community capacity
• An interest and/or working experience in emotional support and wellbeing of children
• First aid and Safeguarding training
• Excellent interpersonal skills, in particular an ability to network and develop good relationships with stakeholders, children and parents
• An enthusiastic, can-do attitude with a passion for nature, the outdoors and animal welfare.
