Be a key player in Salesforce’s foray into a business video streaming service. Salesforce seeks a motivated, innovative, and experienced Paralegal/Senior Paralegal, Copyright and Content Clearance to join our Trademark and Copyright Legal team. Working with copyright counsel, this position will assist Salesforce’s business teams by providing rights and clearances for musical, pictorial, and audio-visual works. This will involve risk assessment and negotiating third-party content licenses on a short timeline. The ideal candidate will be proficient in copyright law, familiar with a wide variety of licenses and able to work independently.
The ability to work in a faced-paced, collaborative environment is essential.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Secure rights to third-party content (music, images, and audio-visual works) for use in company channels (i.e., website, social, marketing, and streaming)
Manage and administer legal rights and clearances for Salesforce-generated content
Promptly facilitate third-party content clearance requests, research copyright ownership, analyze rights and risks
Negotiate and draft a wide array of license agreements
Assist in the development and implementation of new processes to increase efficiency, enhance data collection and prioritization of projects
Support the processing of incoming Digital Millennium Copyright Act (“DMCA”) and other takedown notices
Other Responsibilities May Include:
Help managing Salesforce’s global copyright, and domain portfolios
Provide litigation support for copyright matters
Assisting with documenting and cataloging in a rights management tool
Preparing and filing copyright registrations
Reviewing and preparing responses to the Copyright Office examiners’ inquiries
Conducting copyright searches through the Copyright Office’s online Public
Records Catalog, analyzing results and preparing search reports
Navigating the U.S. Copyright Office (“USCO”) website to find links to forms, fact sheets and Circulars
Understanding of USCO filing procedures through eCO, the DMCA Designated Agent online registration system, and certain hard copy registrations and recordation
Qualifications:
Minimum 5-8 years of experience as a Copyright Paralegal or Rights and Clearances coordinator (or equivalent), ideally with both law firm and in-house experience
Preferred education is a Bachelor’s degree or paralegal certification from an approved American Bar Association program.
Strong understanding of the Copyright Act, pertinent sections of 37 C.F.R., the Compendium of U.S. Copyright Office Practices, and the DMCA.
Experience in television/music/entertainment field in a business affairs, rights and clearances and licensing capacity (streaming service, tv network, advertising agency or studio experience preferred)
Expertise in licensing for various platforms
Comprehensive understanding of music rights, audio-visual and image for various use cases (streaming, in-person events and VOD)
Ability to work proactively and independently with strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple matters/projects simultaneously
Strong ability to prioritize, monitor, meet deadlines, and manage projects in a fast-paced environment to ensure matters are timely handled
Ability to be adaptable, collegial, and maintain a positive attitude
Knowledge of common office software, digital asset management software and business process tools such as Salesforce and Slack.
