Camp Director – Haliburton Scout Reserve
1 Year Contract

Scouts Canada has an exciting opportunity for a Camp Director to join the Properties Team at Scouts
Canada at the Haliburton Scout Reserve (HSR Camp). This role is starting during the month of January for one year contract reporting to the Property Operations Manager. This role requires living onsite seasonally during the summer camp (accommodations provided). Please note that our camps are pet and smoke-free.

Do you consider yourself an expert when it comes to being a hands-on business savvy entrepreneurial focused on the vision of creating a financially sustainable adventure camp experience for youth. Are you focused on ensuring the camp is creating a leading youth experience with quality programming? You would be responsible for coordinating customer service, retail services, business services, programs, camp bookings, food services and site use.

You will be responsible for delivering a safe and adventurous overnight camp program for youth!

Your to-do list will change daily, but your primary responsibilities are:

• Camp director will develop and operationalize revenue opportunities to increase camp utilization with a focus on revenue development
• Perform and delegate to volunteers and/or staff, the planning and day-to-day administration of day camps and residential recreation programs. Review and design camp curricula, oversee camp employees and campers, and monitor expenses.
• Mobilize, solicit, and empower property committee volunteers and staff to bring up the quality of the camp infrastructure and programming.
• Coordinate the development and seek of 3rd party partnerships to improve revenue for camp infrastructure.
• Hiring, train and mentor camp staff members. Director will ensure all hires are linked to revenue. Director will create a culture of safety and youth satisfaction.
• Act as a mentor to other Scout Camps as needed with the sharing of best practices
• The delivery of exceptional customer service by all staff and volunteers
• Supporting and providing leadership for all camp programs and staff
• Assisting with recruiting, hiring, training, coaching and supervising camp staff and volunteers
• Reviewing monthly operational expenses and aligning with the approved budget
• Supervising office operations
• Managing staffing and inventory for the store and shop operations
• Monitoring and working with food services staff to ensure the appropriate use of resources and equipment when preparing meals for staff and guests
• Liaise and provide information to camp staff, council leadership, members, volunteers and guests
• Providing support and assistance to on-site medical staff
• Ensuing camp facilities, operations and equipment are in good condition at all times
• Reviewing and approving tenders for work to be completed by outside contractors
• Continually looking for process improvement opportunities for current and future camping seasons
• Ensuring all health and safety, public health and recreational camp act legislation are being adhered to at all times
• Continually looking for program improvement opportunities for current and future camping seasons to ensure that there is an alignment with the Canadian Path
• Assisting with the annual budget and plan for HSR
• Ensuring programs and activities are safe, fun and age-appropriate
• Liaise with camper guardians, stakeholders and other associated interested parties ensuring positive interactions and relationships

Education, Experience & Skills

• Post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent experience
• Minimum two years of experience in recreational programming or education
• Proven supervisory experience
• Expert knowledge of outdoor camping, experiences and skills
• Understanding of applicable fire safety, environmental, health and safety code
• General knowledge of food services
• Possess a valid drivers licence – able to provide a clean drivers abstract
• Small boat/pleasure craft operators license
• Standard First Aid and CPR
• Firearms license considered an asset
• Proficient in MS Office, including Excel, Word and Outlook.

Working Conditions

• Shift work required, including evenings and weekends
• Frequent exposure to environmental conditions (rain, snow, heat and cold)
• Most work takes place outside
• Moderate travel required
• PRC (Police Record Check) and VSS (Vulnerable Sector Check) required
• Training for Drinking Water Operator Certificate will be provided
• Physical Demands such as moderate lifting, pushing and pulling

Salary depends on skills and experience. Compensation for this role is $51,075.00
