Summary The Division of Investment Management (IM) works to support the SEC in its mission to protect investors, maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation. IM regulates investment companies, variable insurance products, and federally registered investment advisers. The Analytics Office is seeking to fill one Supervisory Financial Analyst position. Responsibilities Typical Duties: Design, manage, and lead multidisciplinary projects to assess, investigate, and/or analyze complex issues in asset management including those related to portfolio management, fund operations, compliance with regulatory obligations, risk assessment, and other topics that may inform regulatory policy using a combination of outreach, examinations, and analysis of market and regulatory datasets. Develop and present authoritative reports based on the evaluation and interpretation of studies in the assigned area of financial analysis; incorporate insights about emerging risks, trends, and events gained from research and monitoring work into reports and presentations that can inform Commission and Division leadership about areas for potential policy action. Work closely with analytical, examination, legal, and other staff to summarize industry data analysis, information gathered in outreach, and/or exam findings in a clear, concise way that is appropriate for the audience. Supervise the analytical work of a multidisciplinary team that includes staff with a variety of backgrounds and expertise, including data scientists, subject matter specialists, accountants, lawyers, and examiners. Coordinate with staff across the Division and Commission, as well as public and industry representatives regarding policy affecting the Analytics Office and the Division. Carry out supervisory duties, such as performance management, training, awards, and recruitment; develop policies and procedures and management controls; develop budgets and strategic plans; determine scope and complexity of possible initiatives; keep employees informed regarding the policies, procedures, and goals of the Commission as they relate to their work on assigned projects; work with senior management on office and personnel development as well as the design and implementation of new initiatives. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: SK-17: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-14 or 15 grade level. Specialized experience includes all of the following: Managing data-driven analytics work and practical research involving financial markets and products overseen by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) including, in particular, those related to the asset management industry; AND Providing advice, counsel and recommendations related to sensitive policy or regulatory programs, issues, and problems that involve multiple stakeholders and considerable uncertainty; AND Serving as a technical expert on market practices, operations, and innovations in areas related to the markets and market participants regulated by the SEC; AND Communicating findings and analysis, both in writing and orally, to variety of audiences, including senior leadership, other staff, and the public; AND Working with and/or leading teams of staff with varying backgrounds and experience, such as attorneys, analysts, accountants, and/or examiners.
