About the opportunity

Seeing Machines is seeking experienced Software Architects to support the design, development and delivery of world-class driver and occupant monitoring technology to customers across the globe.

As part of the Engineering team, you will apply your software engineering expertise to create and maintain architectural and design specifications of embedded computer vision systems that adhere to industry safety and process standards.

Our talented and close-knit team fosters an environment of product innovation, quality software, rapid product iteration and collaborating in the design and architecture of a wide range of products, including both hardware and software. Your responsibilities will include:

• Collaborate with other professionals to determine functional and non-functional requirements for new software or applications.
• Use tools and methodologies to create representations for functions and interfaces of desired product (e.g. Enterprise Architect using UML)
• Develop high-level product designs and architectures with attention to system integration and feasibility
• Define all aspects of development from appropriate technology, designs, patterns and workflows
• Successfully communicate all concepts and guidelines to the development team.
• Inform and report design and architectural feasibility studies and decisions to the Product Owner (PO)
• Develop and maintain platform guidelines, rules and best practices.
• Oversee progress of the development team to ensure consistency with initial design, in-line with defined best practices.
• Provide technical guidance and coaching to developers and engineers
• Ensure software meets all requirements of quality, modularity, feasibility, testability, maintainability, expandability, scalability, reliability, security realization and usability.
• Leading root-causing activities of technical issues.
• Supporting analysis of software designs and architecture, including FMEA/FTA or other failure mode and root cause analysis methods.
• Identification, documentation and development of mitigation plans for design and architectural risks.
• Development of training material on design and architecture best practices, platform guidelines and rules for the development team.
• Document design and architectural decisions and proposals, including considered options, evaluations of each and a recommendation.

About you

• Tertiary qualifications in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or equivalent
• Experience with Unified Modelling Language (UML) and diagramming complex architectures.
• Experience in requirements decomposition and requirements management
• Demonstrated commercial experience developing products using C/C++
• Manage software development best practices in a collaborative environment
• Overseeing the development of a project and coordinating teams of developers to meet design standards
• Proven ability to provide leadership, coaching and guidance to team members to meet demanding project scheduling goals
• Ability to think creatively to find alternate solutions or creative ways to solve problems
• Ability to reverse engineer existing software solutions and documentation/analysis of the design/architecture
• Strong problem solving, data analysis and analytical skills
• Highly organized – results and delivery oriented
• Ability to collaborate, build effective relationships and influence others within a matrix management organization
• Ability to express technical concepts clearly, both verbally and written

Advantageous, but not essential:

• Experience in Automotive design and architectural best practices, design patterns, industry standard tooling (eg. Operating Systems)
• Demonstrated experience in developing safety-critical applications and compliance to industry safety standards such as ASPICE/CMMI/ISO 26262 etc.
• Experience developing commercial products within the Automotive domain
• Embedded low-level software engineering experience and/or hardware knowledge
• Experience with DevOps practices
• Experience writing Python or other scripting languages
