About You

You are enthusiastic, dedicated, results-driven, and committed to providing effective sports, fitness, health and wellbeing education programmes for prisoners. You are a compassionate and understanding individual with an understanding of working with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, and their unique care requirements.

About the Role

Reporting to the Operations Manager you will work alongside prisoners to deliver a full and varied programme of both educational and recreational P.E activities to meet the needs and interests of the men in our prison. You must be available to work in the evenings and weekend shifts when required.

To be successful in the role, you will have:

• Experience from working in Custodial Corrections officer role
• Have a qualification in Physical Education
• Teaching qualification at either Secondary or Adult Education level (or a commitment to work towards gaining a Teaching Qualification)
• Experience in working with offenders (preferred but not essential)
• A culturally responsive approach to facilitation
• The ability to provide academic mentorship to learners
• Ability to command and control large groups
• Ability to plan and deliver structured courses and recreational sports

You must be able to maintain relevant security and criminal compliance checks. This is a position of trust and responsibility and to support this we will conduct a thorough probity assessment as an essential selection component for this role.

It is a state of the art facility, operated on behalf of the NZ Department of Corrections. We provide a safe and secure environment for over 900 male prisoners, with a strategic focus on rehabilitation and reintegration of prisoners.
