The Role

As a Senior Software Engineer at Shorthand you will join a small, passionate team who are at the forefront of digital storytelling for the web.

Reporting to the VP of Growth, you’ll develop innovative new features and user experiences for our SaaS platform, and you’ll help manage our analytics and data infrastructure.

This role will be especially rewarding to candidates who are interested in acquiring or deepening knowledge on how to successfully grow a product’s user base and scale an early-to-mid stage SaaS business. The Growth team at Shorthand combines entrepreneurial thinking and rapid experimentation to test creative ideas and features aimed at delivering exceptional user experiences and expanding the reach of our product.

We are looking for someone who:

• is whip-smart, as demonstrated by career achievements and/or school/university results,
• is data-driven and analytical,
• enjoys learning and testing new ideas,
• has a wide range of experience across languages, frameworks, and approaches such as JavaScript, TypeScript, ReactJS, NodeJS, and scripting,
• is an SQL wizard, able to bridge the gaps between databases, spreadsheets, and third-party applications,
• is an expert in using git, and
• has a high bar for quality, but is not afraid to move quickly and experiment with new ways of doing things.

Core Responsibilities:

You’ll be responsible for:

• taking the lead on implementing experimental features for our digital storytelling platform.
• helping to formulate growth hypotheses and design growth experiments, alongside the VP Growth and Growth UX Lead, and
• identifying and integrating suitable third party tools and libraries for:
  • experimentation and testing,
  • gathering product analytics and qualitative insights on what’s working well in our software and what’s not, and
  • automating processes and improving data flows between our disparate systems such as billing, CRM, user onboarding, customer success, analytics, and other systems.

Qualifications:

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in software engineering roles.
• Prior experience with query languages and analytics platforms.
• Prior experience with software integration projects.
• University qualification in computer science, mathematics or a closely related field, or equivalent career experience.
