Job Title: Online Organizer
Department: Digital Strategies
Location: Washington DC, Oakland, CA, Gulf Coast or Remote
Reports To: Manager, Online Organizing
Context: At the Sierra Club, we believe in the power of togetherness. Together, we remain committed to the fight for a healthy climate built on a foundation of environmental, racial, economic, and gender justice – a future where all people benefit from a healthy, thriving planet and a direct connection to nature. As the climate crisis and deeply entrenched systemic racism all fuel inequity, we will continue to fight for a bold, transformational agenda that recognizes the interconnectedness between our planet, our humanity, and our democracy. By recognizing that our destinies are tied, we continue to name that all things are fundamentally connected, and the overlap between ecology, race, gender, and representative government will move to either advance our collective humanity or to oppress it.
Sierra Club is comprised of staff across the country and a network of local chapters that support our grassroots engagement. We are also proud to be a unionized employer, with two labor unions representing more than half of our employees.
We are seeking an Online Organizer to craft and execute online organizing strategy, which includes developing an active, online network of Sierra Club members and supporters engaged in the campaign. The Online Organizer will advise and help craft appropriate digital strategies specifically to reach out to and grow the Sierra Club’s engagement of frontline communities and communities of color. They will work with appropriate campaign staff to use Sierra Club’s online data, web and social media, mobile and email systems to drive the strategy and further advance the goals of the campaign and to make the Sierra Club a more inclusive place for everyone.
Scope: As an Online Organizer you will plan, strategize, and implement online education and mobilization efforts. You will also access Sierra Club database systems to assess results, build data files, and target online organizing strategies. Not only that, but you will also coordinate editing, writing, researching and developing online web pages, social media content, mobile strategies, and action alerts to support the campaign. You are the kind of person who is tech savvy, curious about new and emerging digital tools and tactics, and excited to use your creativity to test new ideas and strategies.
