Overview

Software Engineer works in a scrum team comprised of Software Engineers, QA, UX, Scrum Master and Product Owner. Through technical leadership and individual contribution, they help their team design, build, and release code for system layers that include user interface, back-end API, and database.

This role involves migrating a Python codebase to a C# .NET microservice architecture. The ideal candidate is an expert in C# .NET microservices and has a working knowledge of Python. Maintaining a transitioning Python codebase will be required.

Job Details

• Contribute as Expert Software Engineer – Provide significant contributions to the success of a project through requirements processing, architecture design, code, root cause analysis, system optimizations, and solving problems that have blocked team members from making progress
• Lead and Improve Engineering Process – Evangelize the SILAC software development processes and contributes to its evolution
• Implement and Teach Engineering Standards – Implement industry best practices and engineering principles, and helps the team to better understand them
• Mentor Junior Engineers – Engage in mentoring junior developers with a focus on supporting them in their long-term growth as engineers
• Provide Oversight for Team – Understand the skill level of their teammates and provides oversight as needed
• Follow Industry Trends – Stay current on development technology and methodology trends
• Increase Team Productivity – Multiply the productivity of their teammates through teaching, assisting, and encouraging
• Simplify Designs – Simplify large complex problems into smaller components that are easy to understand and implement
• Monitor Development Project Health – Monitor the health of the project architecture, automated test suite, quality indicators and takes the initiative to course correct the team.
• Provide Broad Influence – Influence the entire engineering organization beyond just their team
• Review Code – Participate regularly in code reviews

Requirements

• Expert in a variety of Agile development methodologies and practices
• Expert in software architect and development
• Expert in designing and implementing database architectures
• Capable of convincing teams to make changes to improve
• Great attention to detail
• Instinct for team collaboration and adherence to code standardization
• BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience

Desired Experience

• Experience with Python, Django, C#, .NET Core, SQL Server, React and Angular
• Experience with Docker
• Experience with version control system like Git, SVN, etc.
• Experience in microservice and service-oriented architecture
• Experience in message queues and pub/sub patterns
• Knowledge of insurance products and experience with insurance company operations, organization, procedures, and policies
