Field Service Technician
Smith Power Products, the MTU Distributor for Colorado, is seeking applications for Field Service Technicians to operate in the Greater Denver Area (Front Range) of Colorado.
We are looking for experienced diesel engine mechanics for our field service technician addition to our team. We have a fast paced, fun work environment, working with the leading edge of diesel & gas power train technologies. This field service technician works on industrial diesel engines that produce up to 4000 H/P for applications such as mining, the oil and gas industry, power generation, C&I, agriculture, etc. On this team we help you further your expertise in diesel engine knowledge, an extreme attention to detail, and understanding of complete failure analysis. Our skilled professionals help our customers analyze the failure and push for further product life through maintenance practice changes. Our builds, are backed by the factory and performed to OEM standards.
The field service technician works with minimal direct supervision in diagnosing, troubleshooting and repairing engines and related heavy equipment at the customer’s site, or in shop as needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
Administrative :
Maintains truck and crane inspection logs on a daily basis. Completes and complies with DOT log rules. Completes service reports daily that are legible and have proper grammar and sentence structure, and transmits photos, timecards, service reports, and other information through e-mail or mobile app. Maintains good customer records on jobs that have been assigned. Maintains expense receipts for accounting purposes.
Organizational :
Works with the Parts Department, Field Service Coordinator, Product Support Representatives, and Sales Department to meet all of the customer’s needs.
Interpersonal :
Communicates with customers on the diagnosis and status of repairs, parts, and other concerns. Teaches and coaches other technicians in the field. Communicates customer issues to Field Service Coordinator.
Sales :
Promotes Smith Power Products, Inc. services and products to customers.
Technical :
Accurately troubleshoots and repairs equipment the first time. Completes job within reasonably expected labor guidelines. Reads, understands, and applies electrical and hydraulic schematics to repair work. Safely rigs or hooks components for lifting. Removes, repairs, and installs major components in varying configurations of equipment. Maintains tooling in good working order as per MSHA and OSHA regulations. Makes determinations in the field on warranty repair and guidelines, in coordination with Field Service Coordinator, and communicates with customer during decision making process. Maintains service vehicle in safe and good repair. Pre-plans and schedules truck services/safety inspections with foreman.
ESSENTIAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education Required: High School Diploma or GED and Relevant accredited courses
Minimum Experience Required: Three + years’ experience servicing MTU Engines
Administrative / Clerical Experience – Basic Level
Customer Service Experience – Intermediate Level
Sales Experience – Basic Level
Technical or Mechanical – Advanced
Certificates, Licenses and Registrations Required: DOT Health Card, Class A Driver’s License and MSHA 5023 Certification. (We will assist in obtaining these certification for the qualified technician).

Exceptions
In some situations, it may be necessary to have an employee start in this role that is not currently qualified in one way or another. In those situations, a probation period may be established for the tech to get up to the standard for this role.
