We have an exciting new vacancy for an enthusiastic, well organised and motivated individual to fill this key full-time position within the Property and Facilities Unit at South Taranaki District Council.
The Council’s property portfolio includes a significant number of green and public spaces which fill diverse needs for the community. The primary activities of the Places and Spaces Volunteer Co-ordinator is to coordinate and facilitate volunteer community groups and individuals to contribute to horticultural and outdoor community projects/initiatives and maintenance tasks in public parks and spaces across South Taranaki. The position will also develop and promote volunteer events, programmes and outcomes to encourage participation from schools, community groups and businesses wanting to volunteer in public parks and spaces.
The ideal applicant will have a Level 4 Certificate in Horticulture, Community Development, or equivalent work experience and a sound understanding of horticultural principles, plants and plant placement and a passion for gardening. Knowledge and experience of working with community groups and recreational use of parks is also required.
They should be versatile, self-motivated and able to work under pressure, be well organised and have the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines. A positive, co-operative attitude, great people skills, a willingness to work in a team environment and sound written and oral communication skills are also required. Practical experience in facility maintenance and/or contract monitoring and a clean valid NZ driver’s license are essential for this role.
Applicants for this position must have NZ residency or hold a valid NZ work visa. In terms of residence class visa applications, first priority will be given where the applicant is in New Zealand.
