Accountant / Financial Analyst
Description
Mississippi Power’s Accounting, Finance and Treasury organization has an exciting opportunity open for an Accountant/Financial Analyst located in Gulfport, Mississippi.
The successful candidate may be placed in various areas of our organization to include, but not limited, to:
Financial Planning & Analysis
Budget
Regulatory Accounting
Corporate Accounting
Revenue Accounting
Property Accounting
Financial Reporting
Summary of Position Duties
Ensure timely and accurate preparation and reporting of accounting information to management, investors, and regulatory bodies
Prepare, review, and analyze monthly entries, financial statements and respond to regulatory data request, cost of service studies and associated data requests
Reconcile account balances to the general ledger
Monitor accounting information and system of internal controls to ensure the Company’s accounting practices comply with GAAP, company policies and procedures and regulatory requirements
Serve as the subject matter expert for assigned areas that includes resolution of accounting control & process issues and application of accounting & system knowledge in support of Company personnel
Participate on company and system teams as needed
Prepare, analyze and present financial and accounting information related to role as requested
Prepare responses to data requests, audit activities, etc. as needed
Job Experience and Education
Degree in Accounting required
Advanced degree or certification desired
Experience in accounting or finance related roles desired
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is required
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent interpersonal skills, including both written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products – especially Excel spreadsheets
Knowledge of accounting theory
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects with changing priorities and produce timely results; Ability to effectively respond to changing business needs
Basic project management skills
Working knowledge of utility accounting and regulatory framework preferred

Other Requirements
Candidate will assist Company personnel in resolving problems and conduct training on Accounting concepts, systems and procedures
Successful candidate would be required to perform assigned “storm duty” in the event of a disaster
