Coaching serves learners by assisting with academic success strategies and problem solving. The primary responsibilities of a coach is to support learners to become more independent, persist in their studies, and reach their goals. Coaches provide individual and/or group tutoring to learners across a broad range of subject matter based on their personal area of knowledge and experience. Coaches meet with learners to clarify and review concepts, explain processes and help learners solve specific problems. Coaches support demo-centered activities, and as such, the emphasis and content of the coaching sessions is determined by the learner’s needs. Coaches work with colleagues and the Coach Coordinator to support their own professional development.
Responsibilities include:
Be available to assist learners during whole group learning, study halls, one-on-ones, workshops or any other scheduled or unscheduled activities
Recognize primary role to help learners become more confident, more successful, self directed learners
You will be expected to monitor the cohort’s Slack channel and respond to learner questions
Attend weekly check-ins with the facilitator for assigned quarter
Recognize the different learning styles and student preferences
Grading assignments as needed
Create a professional and welcoming environment by modeling respect for learners’ diverse cultures, language skills, and experiences
Participate in professional development activities to improve coaching skill and continue to grow cultural competence and reflection skills
Utilize listening and questioning strategies as the primary coaching method to diagnose student needs and monitor progress
Complete instruction reports on all coaching sessions, to be submitted by end of day. If you are working after-hours, the reports should be submitted by 12:00pm the following day.
Utilize feedback and reflection to improve practice
Qualifications:
Must maintain a 90% in current quarter to continue in the coaching program
Applicants will be required to pass a skills check
