Description

The Squiz product team is working to deliver a cloud-based digital experience platform (DXP). A core component of our DXP is Matrix, a much-loved CMS used by hundreds of large clients around the world.

Matrix is a PHP CMS backed by a PostgreSQL database and using combination of React and PHP-generated UIs. Customers host Matrix in both our Squiz private cloud and in our AWS-based SaaS environment.

We’re seeking a Software Engineer with a passion for problem solving to join our Matrix CMS team on a permanent basis.

You’ll be working alongside other developers who’ve been part of the making Matrix what it is today, and helping to measure and improve and the performance, stability, and hosting cost of the CMS. You will also work collaboratively with some great engineers in other areas such as our Platform and SRE teams to make sure our product continues to perform and scale well.

What will I do?

• Create, maintain, and improve code in the Matrix CMS, infrastructure, and supporting tooling
• Develop a deep understanding of the Matrix CMS codebase and architecture
• Work across both our dedicated Squiz Cloud and AWS SaaS hosting environments
• Use data driven decision making to help prioritise refactoring tasks and bug fixes
• Release changes to production and monitor their impact on the customer base
• Support internal developers by diagnosing and resolving issues with customer projects
• Improve the performance and hosting cost of the CMS when running in our AWS SaaS environment
• Design and run performance and load tests to diagnose bottlenecks and measure the success of changes
• Participate in agile ceremonies including standups, sprint planning, and showcases
• Write and maintain technical software documentation

What do I need?

• Commercial experience building and maintaining PHP applications
• Proven experience working with Relational database (ideally PostgresSQL)
• The ability to debug issues in a complex and unfamiliar codebase
• A passion for improving application performance
• Familiarity with the Matrix CMS would be highly beneficial
• Experience working with JS frameworks like React would be beneficial
• Experience working with TypeScript would be beneficial
• Familiarity with AWS services (EC2, EFS, Aurora, ElastiCache etc) would be beneficial
