Overview:
STAR Lab is focused on developing and deploying speech and language processing solutions to the US government and commercial clients. As a key part of this work, we have developed a software platform that provides continuity across different projects and allows for a consistent and well-documented means of moving from research to hardened software that can be delivered to customers. This system is designed to be modular, such that each speech/language capability is defined as a plugin that is separable from the core system.
This position can be hybrid to Arlington, VA, Menlo Park, CA, Princeton, NJ, Manhattan, NY, Boulder, CO, or Ann Arbor, MI OR Fully REMOTE, within the USA.

For Colorado and New York residents, the salary range is: $135,000 – $180,000. Salary ranges for this role will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. The Speech Technology and Research Laboratory is seeking a
Senior Software Developer to lead the continuing development of this software platform for the processing of speech, text and video. Work will involve software architecture design and system development to evolve the platform as project and end user requirements change and available software paradigms mature. A successful candidate will have the drive to lead a major software effort involving the integration of emerging speech/text/video processing technologies into a framework that can be deployed to our customers. Candidates must have a proven track record of developing application software for a variety of operating environments.

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate must excel at effectively collaborating across multiple functions, interacting with testers, researchers, and customers, and engaging the software engineering team to be advocates for customer satisfaction, quality of all work products, and continuous improvement.
Responsiblities will include:
- Support the continued development and enhancement of the platform
- Lead software meetings and coordinate team to manage user requirements, schedule, bugs, testing and planning of future releases
- Manage budget, cost, and schedule of assigned areas in conjunction with the project technical leads.
- As needed, travel to, and interact with customers, suppliers and vendors as needed ( 5%).
- Coordinate local team or manage out-sourced work where appropriate
- Maintain high flexibility to meet current and future business needs including the planning, coordination, follow-up and priority definition for projects and team
- Improve processes, methods and tools related to the platform.
- Establish software project plans and project tracking metrics
- Ensure project compliance with customer specifications
Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- Experience leading team software efforts with multiple engineers with a strong focus on execution, achieving quality goals and meeting customer commitments
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- 8+ years of industry experience; 5+ years’ software leadership experience
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, listening, and written communication
- High capability to drive, motivate and co-operate as well as excellent person-to-person communication and negotiation skills
- Leading by example to generate energy and to create a team spirit and motivate your employees
- Knowledge and experience with Python, JAVA, ZeroMQ, Google protobuffers a plus
- Experience with speech or audio signal processing applications is desirable, but not essential.
- Effective multi-tasker, able to demonstrate ability to handle changing work assignments, schedules and priorities in a deadline driven environment
- US Citizenship required
- Capable of traveling within US, 5-10%
