St James’s Hospital Hiring For Specialist Surveillance Scientist (SARI) at South Dublin, County Dublin Full Time

The Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC) is Ireland’s national centre with legal responsibility for communicable disease surveillance in Ireland. Surveillance of COVID 19, Influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), particularly monitoring their clinical impact and severity are of importance to the health system in terms of guiding health services’ response and planning all-year round.

To enhance the surveillance of severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) in hospitals, a project to monitor SARI cases requiring admission to hospital via emergency departments was established in 2021. This SARI surveillance programme forms part of a European SARI network (Known as E-SARI) net). In Ireland, SARI surveillance is a collaborative project between HPSC, SARI hospital sites and the National Virus Reference Laboratory (NVRL)

The recruitment and appointment of laboratory specialist surveillance scientists is an essential component of the implementation of SARI and is greatly facilitating the collection and analysis of data locally and nationally. Laboratory surveillance scientists work as part of a multidisciplinary team in helping to ensure the control and prevention of SARI and healthcare-associated infections.
