ABOUT THE POSITION
The Storekeeper I orders, receives, stores, and issues supplies and records, and maintains data on the receipt and issuance of supplies. This classification spends the majority of their time processing storeroom paperwork and may supervise a small group in receiving and distributing stock. This position is subject to overtime, standby, and callback assignments. Performs related duties as assigned and should have an understanding of public health practices and principles; and of social determinants, health disparities, and health and racial equity. The Storekeeper I will work in a grant-funded position through 2023.
Unless otherwise provided, this position is part of the Classified Service of the County and is assigned to the Office Worker/Clerical bargaining unit for labor relations purposes.
Individuals who are in a full-time classification position are required to serve a twelve-month probationary period, which may be extended an additional six months, for a total of eighteen months.
Incumbents may also be subject to overtime, standby, callback, weekend, holiday and shift assignments as identified in their MOU (Memorandum of Understanding).

Typical Tasks
Check incoming supplies against requisition forms to determine if the correct quantity and quality of goods were received;
Make daily entry of goods received and report on outgoing items;
Fill out and check purchase requisitions in ordering various types of storeroom supplies;
Investigate and check on complaints regarding the quantity and/or quality of goods received;
Check purchase orders against incoming supplies;
Assist with inventories;
Prepare and maintain written records on stock inventories;
Assist in the preparation of departmental budget requests, estimating and anticipating changes in the level of service required and new equipment needed; and
Supervise, train and evaluate subordinate personnel when requested.
Minimum Qualifications (Skills, Abilities, Knowledge, Education/Experience)
SKILLS/ABILITIES
Keep accurate up to date inventories by maintaining records of incoming and outgoing supplies;
Issue and store supplies properly;
Supervise the work activities of other employees in the inventory, record-keeping and other functions of the storeroom;
Operates motorized equipment such as a fork lift to move large, heavy equipment;
Read and write English sufficiently to fill out labels and read requisitions;
Requisitions materials to maintain an accurate level of stock; and
Organize and utilize storeroom space to the optimum.
KNOWLEDGE
Basic storekeeping principles and methods such as inventory control, shipping and receiving, and requisitioning supplies; and
Maintaining records of incoming and outgoing supplies.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Graduation from high school or passage of the high school level; OR
General Education Development (GED).

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Written Examination. Applicants will be invited to participate in a written exam that tests knowledge for the position.
Oral Examination. Applicants are invited to a panel interview in which they will be evaluated by County subject matter experts.
Eligible Lists. Candidates who pass the examination will be placed on an eligible list for that classification. Eligible lists are effective for six months but may be extended up to eighteen months.
