Position Overview

Under general supervision of the Executive II, Records Office Supervisor, performs a variety of complex time computations and clerical related duties for the Records Office; serves as a lead worker for lower level Corrections Clerks; interviews inmates; enforces and maintains disciplinary, safety, sanitary and custodial measures.

Job Responsibilities

• Verifies mittimus and court papers for name, charge, and sentencing.
• Interviews inmates during the intake process into the Reception & Classification Center.
• Responds to inquiries from individuals in custody regarding individuals in custody visitation rights.
• Provides direction and guidance to lower level Corrections Clerks engaged in the Reception and Classification process.
• Serves as lead worker.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of high school.
• Requires two (2) years clerical experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Require extensive knowledge of institutional rules, regulations, and requirements for the control of residents.
• Requires working knowledge of office methods and procedures.
• Requires working knowledge of business English and spelling and commercial arithmetic.

Conditions of Employment

• Requires completion of an approved course in guard training within six (6) months of employment.
• Requires the ability to pass the Illinois Department of Corrections background check.
• Requires the ability to pass a drug screen. On January 1, 2020, the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act made it legal for residents over the age of 21 to produce, consume and sell cannabis in Illinois. Please note that although the law has changed, the Department will continue to enforce the Department’s zero tolerance Drug Testing policy. The use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, by an employee, regardless of the position held is prohibited.
