State of Michigan – Department of Treasury Hiring for Departmental Technician 7- E9-Discovery at Lansing, Michigan Full Time

The primary tasks of this position consist of comparing individual income tax returns and correspondence to tables created by a database. Making recommendations to add new processing conditions for the income tax processing system. Conducting projects designed to detect and contact non-filers and individuals that under report individual income tax (IIT) utilizing information provided by the Internal Revenue Service, other state agencies and Treasury Department records, within an area of tax expertise and knowledge of the individual. Acts as a subject matter expert to taxpayers and their representatives for IIT; interprets and applies complex tax laws, rules and regulations to questions and problems received. Reviews and evaluates project data, prepares summaries and makes recommendations for improvements to projects. Prepares procedures for projects that adhere to departmental policies, prepares programs for support staff development and training within the individual’s area of IIT expertise.
