Job Summary
The DNR is currently seeking to fill one (1) seasonal, intermittent Parks and Trails Associate at Cascade River State Park. This is an on-call or as-needed position, with days and hours of work will vary and may include weekends and holidays.
This position exists to sell vehicle permits and merchandise, inform and educate user about park rules & regulations, distribute information and present a favorable image to the public, assist campground users, perform administrative functions to ensure effective transition from calendar year to calendar year. When required, also to do light maintenance work, cleaning, and assist the park administrative staff as requested.
Responsibilities include:
Register campers, sell park vehicle permits, sell merchandise items, and rent facilities and equipment so that all State Laws, State Park Regulations, Division directives and policies are observed, and so that fees are collected for all services and items sold.
Answer questions and disseminate information so that park visitors are informed of rules, fees, policies, and recreational opportunities in such manner that a positive image of Minnesota State Parks is generated.
Organize camper reservations and information, compile income reports, document visitor use, and provide miscellaneous clerical support so that effective visitor service, attendance, and fiscal accountability are maintained.
Provide communication with park personnel and keep supervisors informed so that adequate control is maintained over public activities in the park.
Maintain appearance, wear uniforms properly, and treat the public and fellow employees in a courteous, friendly, and efficient manner so that a good public image and good public relations are maintained.
Perform custodial duties so that buildings, grounds, and facilities are neat, clean, safe, and available for the enjoyment of park visitors and staff.
Collaborate on and perform routine maintenance so that park buildings, grounds, facilities, utilities, roads, trails, and equipment are functional and available for safe use while protecting and preserving natural and cultural resources.
Observe and institute the proper security, emergency, and safety guidelines for the protection of visitors, park personnel, resources, and facilities.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to effectively communicate with the public and other employees.
Ability to provide written information and instructions to the public and other park employees.
Arithmetic skills sufficient to accurately collect money from the public for various fees.
Ability to read and comprehend instructions on labels, in instruction manuals, etc.
Ability to operate a phone, two-way radio, computer, and other office equipment.
Customer service skills sufficient to provide information to clients, including phone calls, emails, and walk-in contacts in a helpful and courteous manner.
Ability to work alone, in remote areas of the park.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Minnesota State Park rules, policies, and facilities.
Recordkeeping skills.
Computer skills using Microsoft Office and other proprietary software.
Experience in retail operations.
First Aid and CPR certification or training.
Security experience and training.
Ability to operate a motor vehicle, tractor, snowmobile, snow blower, ATV, lawn mower, small hand tools and other equipment and tools.
Physical Requirements
Occasionally lifting articles such as 50 pound bags of feed maximum and frequently lifting and/or carrying objects such as heavy tools and file boxes. This job may require walking or standing to a significant degree on rough terrain or may involve sitting most of the time with pushing and pulling of arm and/or leg controls.
