Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to work for the Department of Motor Vehicles in Rutland! The Motor Vehicle Examiner is responsible for the administration of various examinations for motor vehicle and operator’s licenses, issuance of various licenses and permits, including the Commercial Driver’s License. Duties involve conducting a variety of examinations, including road tests, to determine applicant driving capability. This position is also responsible for assisting with registrations, renewals, and general customer service.

Environmental Factors

Duties are performed in the field and require operating and riding in automobiles. Considerable human relations skills are required to deal with nervous, upset, or hostile applicants. Incumbents may be required to take over the operation of a motor vehicle in the interest of personal and public safety. Incumbents must be able to carry heavy objects of up to 50 pounds. Due to volume, certain positions may be rotated to various work stations. A uniform must be worn during work hours.
