The Venue

“Freddie’s” as the locals call it, is a venue that offers an institutional gastro pub downstairs with a family-friendly casual dining offering upstairs. 

Named after Frederic Alonzo Carrington (1807 – 1901), who has often been called “The Father of New Plymouth”. A 19th-century New Zealand politician and surveyor. He selected the site of the settlement, was in charge of surveying the area and laid out a plan for the town. Carrington arrived in Taranaki on the Brougham-one of the earliest ships to come to New Plymouth.

The Frederic’s Way – Of course, renowned for a great local and New Zealand beer selection, a friendly face behind the bar, a local crowd with recognisable regulars and cheery greetings. Our aim has always been to serve the very best meat our fair land has to offer. We use the whole animal to make something of everything and increase sustainability just as nature intended. This means we farm less intensively, minimise waste and ensure the highest quality. This gastropub is a seamless combination of bar, restaurant and pub that serves up premium drinks and meals with great personable service. 

The Role

As the Restaurant Manager at Frederic’s, you are the face of the restaurant and a warm and welcome face to the local community. You will be expected to constantly look for ways to improve, bringing ideas and initiatives to the table as well as motivating and driving the venue to success.

We are seeking someone driven and motivated, focused on driving business performance, who can build, develop and lead a high performing team, and most importantly someone who has a passion for creating memorable guest experiences that are second to none. 

Working in a senior management role you will:

• Leading from the front, ensuring your team understand what exceptional looks like everyday
• Hands-on and operational
• Developing the skills of the staff around product knowledge, service skills, team culture and guest relationships
• Managing day to day operations with sophistication and passion
• Lead and coach a diverse team of people,
• Ensuring that team culture is at the forefront of everything you do,
• Understand and own your financials,
• Drive a culture of learning to guarantee you and your teams know our product inside out,
