Stswecem’c Xget’tem First Nation is looking for two (2) highly motivated and qualified individuals to work with RSES teachers and to contribute to the overall success of the Rosie Seymour Elementary School by working with students and/or small groups of students under the supervision of a certificated teacher, helping students to model the skills needed to perform assignments, following the instructional and effective behavioral strategies and plans, modeling positive attitudes and interactions with students and staff; assisting students by providing for special health care needs and also assist special need student (s) in general education classrooms with the goal of helping them to reach their individual educational goals.
Duties
Supports the teacher in all aspects of daily classroom activities.
Assists in the preparation of classroom materials and activities for students.
Instructs and monitors students in the use and care of equipment and materials.
Participate in and supervise games and other recreational activities.
Maintains organization of school library.
Supervises students during breaks as required by the teacher.
Recognizes achievements of students and assists in events celebrating successes.
Discusses assigned duties with the teacher to coordinate instructional efforts.
Prepares lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.
Support field trips that provide cultural and educational content as directed by the teachers.
Participates in fundraising applications to support trips.
Gathers parental permission and waivers for each student.
Other duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications
Graduation from High School Grade 12 or equivalency plus courses related to special needs students.
Ability to work well with others, build effective interpersonal relationships and maintain confidentiality.
Ability to clearly express ideas verbally and in writing.
Ability to self-regulate, meet deadlines, have attention to detail
Proficiency in the use of computer programs e.g. MS Word, and PowerPoint is an asset.
Excellent organizational and communication
Must have a Valid Class 5 Driver’s
Satisfactory Criminal Record, Driver’s Abstract & Vulnerable Sector Check.
Willing to take training related to this position, as directed by the principal
