Role Overview

As the Editor of monthly rural magazine NZ Farmer, you will be responsible for creating, commissioning, writing, editing and overseeing the publication’s entire editorial process, ensuring the delivery of engaging and informative content that reflects the interests and needs of New Zealand’s diverse and dynamic rural community. Your role will involve working closely with some of Stuff’s talented regional journalists and your own contributors, guiding their work, and maintaining the highest standards of journalistic integrity.

Please note this is a contract role working 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute a compelling editorial strategy for NZ Farmer publication, delivering great content for its readership and our commercial partners
• Collaborate with journalists, photographers, videographers and designers across Stuff, assigning and reviewing articles and imagery and providing constructive feedback to ensure the delivery of accurate, balanced, and timely content.
• Keep abreast of industry trends, farming issues, regulations and innovations and establish a network of industry experts and stakeholders to ensure NZ Farmer is at the forefront of a changing industry
• Work with our commercial, marketing and event teams to deliver audiences of value for our commercial partners and support revenue-generating initiatives in the rural vertical
• Write, commission and edit excellent rural journalism which sets NZ Farmer apart in the market, valued for its insights and reflection of life in its communities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Proven experience as an editor or senior journalist, preferably in the field of farming or rural news.
• Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a meticulous eye for detail.
• Strong knowledge of farming practices, rural affairs, and the New Zealand agricultural industry.
• Familiarity with digital publishing platforms, content management systems, and social media.
• Ability to lead and motivate others, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
