You will be joining NZ’s #1 Travel reporting team, have your stories published in the country’s highest-profile travel sections (including Stuff and the Sunday Star-Times), and, yes, have occasional opportunities to see the world.

What You’ll Do

Day to day, you’ll be responsible for:

• Generating and delivering accurate, engaging and well-written stories of national interest from the travel industry.
• Building and cultivating trusted contacts to deliver exclusive stories.
• Being well abreast of the best of New Zealand, as well as news from overseas.
• Editing and producing features.
• Using social media, including Neighbourly, and finding new ways to build our community and audience.

Hat We’re Looking For

This is a fast-paced role. To succeed you will need:

• Strong journalism skills, including the ability to write, self-edit, take pictures and shoot basic videos.
• To be a self-starter, able to work in a sole charge capacity.
• To have lots of insights, ideas, enthusiasm and experiences concerning travel, whether that’s the destinations Kiwis love to visit (or haven’t discovered yet), or the things they need to know. You should have particular interest in New Zealand’s natural environment and the role of Māori in shaping and developing our tourist attractions.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask.
• Equally comfortable turning around a wrap-up of the latest industry deals as writing a column on travel etiquette, or chasing a breaking story on new flight routes.
• Model high editorial standards and sound news judgement.
• Be able to work quickly in a high-pressure environment without compromising accuracy.
• Have a journalism qualification or a proven strong portfolio of journalism work.
