Stuff is looking for three passionate and highly skilled Software Engineers to join our product team. These roles provide an opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative, high-quality software solutions that support our mission to create trustworthy, engaging, and meaningful digital experiences.

About The Role

As a Software Engineer at Stuff, you will design, develop, and maintain software applications across the full technology stack while participating in architectural discussions to create scalable, secure, and high-performance solutions. You will support in fostering a culture of continuous learning and collaboration, and work closely with cross-functional teams to drive Stuff’s innovation and growth. Throughout your role, you will uphold Stuff’s core values of restless creativity, truth-seeking, and manaakitanga (care and respect).

What You’ll Do

• Build and maintain complex applications with a focus on scalability and maintainability.
• Maintain engineering standards and good Agile practices, refining user stories in a dynamic backlog
• Write clean, well-documented code and perform thoughtful code reviews.
• Ensure quality by implementing robust testing practices, including TDD and BDD.
• Guide junior developers, sharing knowledge and promoting best practices.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to deliver value-driven solutions.
• Stay ahead of industry trends and integrate cutting-edge tools and practices.
• Contribute to process improvements and the adoption of new technologies.
• Follow secure coding practices and ensure compliance with relevant regulations, including New Zealand’s Privacy Act.
• Deliver accessible applications adhering to WCAG AA standards.

What We’re Looking For

• 3+ years’ professional software development experience in languages such as Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, or PHP.
• Proficiency in frameworks like React, Angular, or Capacitor .
• Experience with databases (relational and NoSQL) and cloud services (AWS preferred).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, version control (Git), and testing frameworks .
• Strong understanding of security best practices, accessibility standards, and Agile methodologies .
• Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills.
