The Role

Technology & Transformation (T&T) aspires to create experiences our customers value, while providing best in class technology, advice and services to enable Insights across Suncorp. The role of the Principal Software Engineer exists to deliver outstanding business results by developing functional and appealing Digital applications to drive great user experiences of customer-centric solutions.

This role will work in a team that delivers to T&T strategy and will execute a program of work focused on creating and delivering solutions that add value to our customers. The Principal Software Engineer will work collaboratively with stakeholders to design, implement and optimise user experiences using Digital technologies whilst providing systems analysis, design, development, maintenance and ongoing support for Digital applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead design, development and implementation of guidelines and frameworks for developer best practices that serve to improve developer productivity
• Lead design, development and implementation of consistent guidelines and frameworks that build quality, automation and security into Continuous Delivery and Continuous Integration pipelines
• Provide technical leadership in designing and implementing automation, Continuous Delivery and Continuous Integration, config management and monitoring practices
• Provide guidance and feedback for delivery teams to implement best practices and operational requirements such as high availability, disaster recovery and security compliance especially in cloud-based environments
• Analyse system requirements and develop technical design
• Develop and maintains Digital applications
• Perform unit and integration testing on developed code including the execution of thorough and effective unit and system test plans and participate and/or support further testing phases
• Contribute to on call and out of hours activities as reasonably agreed in advance
• Formulate and recommend changes and/or enhancements to Suncorp standard processes

Skills & Experience

• 10+ years appropriate industry experience in software engineering in various programming languages
• 5+ years appropriate industry experience in leading, advising and mentoring engineering teams in a variety of technical and business domains
• A strong technical understanding of the Verint Engagement Manager suite of products, while not mandatory, is preferred.
• Experience in build and dependency management tools such as Maven, Gradle, Grunt, Bower, NPM, Webpack, Eslint and Babel
• Experience in a variety of Web frameworks such as Spring, Spring Web Flow, JSP, React, Redux, Rematch, Formik
• Experience in API frameworks such as Spring Boot
• Experience in testing frameworks using WireMock, Stubby, REST Assured, Pact JVM, Jest, Enzyme, Selenium WebDriver and WebdriverIO
• Excellent knowledge/experience in the application of Agile and Lean approaches
