The Role

Technology and Transformation, (T&T), is a department that operates as an Agile team that simplifies, differentiates, innovates and delivers for Suncorp. We design unique and innovative insurance and banking product solutions and technology platforms that deliver value for our customers.

Senior Software Engineers are responsible for building technical solutions based on industry best practice and principles. They are ultimately accountable for code quality, solution output, software engineering output and the end to end delivery cycle of initiatives that ensure our delivery is best practice both at the time solutions are required and ongoing. Senior Software Engineers will contribute to and influence the overall software engineering operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide systems analysis, design, development, maintenance and ongoing support for Digital applications Lead design, development and implementation of guidelines and frameworks for developer best practices
• Lead design, development and implementation of consistent guidelines and frameworks that build quality, automation and security into Continuous Delivery and Continuous Integration pipelines
• Provide technical leadership in designing and implementing automation, Continuous Delivery and Continuous Integration, config management and monitoring practices in teams
• Provide guidance and feedback for delivery teams to implement best practices and operational requirements such as high availability, disaster recovery and security compliance especially in cloud-based environments
• Analyse system requirements and develop technical design
• Perform unit and integration testing
• Provide input to or develop business systems solutions, estimates and specifications

Skills & Experience

• Minimum 5+ years appropriate industry experience in software engineering
• Minimum 2+ years in leading, advising and mentoring junior engineers
• Experience supporting high availability production systems
• A deep technical understanding of programming or scripting languages such as:
  • Java, JavaScript, Kotlin, Python and Groovy
• A solid technical understanding of a variety of platforms and IT system structures (architectural, application, network, infrastructure, security)
• Proficient understanding of best practice standards and design patterns
• Excellent knowledge/experience in the application of Agile and Lean approaches
