Position Summary: In this position, the team member will operate terminal equipment at our Alcoa facility to unload cargo safely and efficiently from ships to shore silos using a gantry crane unloader and front-end loader to remove cargo from ships holds. Load cargo into railcars from storage silos. Operate as a member of a team, responsible for coordinating information flow between each crew member, location staff/management in the unloading/loading of cargo and assist with light duty maintenance and equipment troubleshooting.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

[OPERATIONS FUNCTIONS]

• Operates gantry crane unloader to unload cargo from ship holds.

• Operates loading equipment, dust collectors, Rail Car Loader per operating plan and instructions.

• Operates equipment such as diesel or gasoline powered skid steer or heavy pay loaders to perform any work for which equipment is designed.

• Responsible for hoisting equipment and materials to repair and maintain plant needs such as to move operating digging equipment to dig and move material such as scale, mud, rock and dirt or sand.

• Operates valves and blower to receive and move Alumina from ship to rail. Monitors and records inventory levels within the port area.

[MAINTENANCE]

• Reports any unusual condition of equipment to superintendent; Responsible for checking equipment for damage or repairs needed, making basic repairs to mechanical and electrical and reporting information to supervisor.

• Assist in troubleshooting and repair of terminal equipment

• Make regular inspections of the transport systems and perform minor maintenance tasks such as adjusting and lubricating equipment, cleaning, washing, descaling, testing, replacing filters, gauges, valves, hoses, and other minor maintenance as necessary to maximize port systems availability and reliability.

• Performs minor electrical and mechanical maintenance tasks such as repairing, adjusting and lubricating equipment. Light duty repair and maintenance of Electrical, Pneumatic, Hydraulic and Conveyance systems as necessary to maximize machine availability/reliability.

[ADMINISTRATION]

• Complies with governmental, state, and company certification standards.

• Performs all duties assigned by the superintendent to make sure port operations continue without interruption.

[SAFETY]

• Ensure that safe equipment operating conditions are met before and during operation.

• Works closely, as needed, with flaggers when making lifts or rigging equipment or material.

Education, Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Experience operating and maintaining heavy machinery including front end loaders, skid steers, conveyors, excavators and automated systems.

• Basic understanding of electrical and mechanical fundamentals and safe practices within an industrial setting

• Self-motivated to take on new challenges and problems in a safe manner when presented

• Ability to respond to issues quickly, safely and effectively in a fast-paced, stressful operating environment

• Valid driver’s license and TWIC or ability to obtain a TWIC required

• Ability to work outside in all types of weather

• Must be available to work varied hours, shifts including days/nights/weekends/holidays as required

Physical Requirements:

• Must meet physical, mental and dexterity requirements of the job including being physically able to climb and descend ladders and stairs to access the all levels of port operating equipment. This includes but not limited to the port operation equipment, unloader ship holds and upper level of the buildings.

• Must be physically able to pull ropes for tying up ship/barges and utilize hand shovels and other tools for cleanup.

• Ability to work in most weather conditions and around heavy machinery, which can be dangerous at times
