About the role

The position as a Senior Traffic & Safety Engineer comes with the opportunity to be part of a team that will be implementing safety improvement work, such as the Road to Zero programme.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include high level communication to the public on requests regarding safety improvement and coordinating with school principals regarding school safety and speed limit investigation work.

• Some key elements of this position will include:
• Analysing traffic crash data from Waka Kotahi’s crash database to develop crash remedial plans in conjunction with Network Operations, Travel Safe, and Cycle Plan Implementation teams.
• Peer reviewing subdivision engineering plans to ensure they comply with National and Council traffic engineering and traffic safety standards and best practise.
• Providing technical advice and undertaking investigations to suggest solutions to traffic safety issues within the context of strategic outcomes that seek safe and efficient roading networks across the city.
• Undertake parking management studies, route and intersection investigations, and area wide/network corridor studies.

What you’ll need to succeed

As an intermediate Traffic & Safety Engineer or a current Senior Traffic & Safety Engineer you’ll need to have a proven relevant work experience. This includes knowledge of traffic guidelines, traffic specifications, and traffic management requirements. Knowledge of Waka Kotahi’s Road specifications is also a must.

You’ll need a degree in Civil Engineering/Traffic Engineering or have NZCE (Civil) qualification with Registered Engineering Associate (REA).
