Job Description

We’re currently a small team from a range of international backgrounds and cultures, as we operate worldwide. We are looking to add a Desk Editor to our Elevate Series team, reporting to the ORG Program Manager in Auckland. You will be an important part of a ground-breaking team that provides a streamlined, personalised, rigorous publishing service to enhance our author’s research. Our mantra is pace, ease, quality, service and trust.

What you’ll be doing:

Help us foster human progress through knowledge! As a Desk Editor you will aid in our mission by…

• Taking responsibility for an end-to-end submission and peer review process;
• Prompt in-house processing of manuscripts;
• Ensuring the highest levels of publication ethics and integrity are maintained on the Journal;
• Having a strong author service mentality, providing timely, friendly and professional communication with authors;
• Providing excellent Editor support, providing help with decision making and other queries.

Qualifications

What we’re looking for:

• Relevant scientific or medical knowledge;
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to convey messages clearly, concisely and accurately, in English;
• Substantial medical publishing experience, including a thorough understanding of the peer review process as it relates to medical research content;
• A complete understanding of best practice in medical research and publication ethics and integrity;
• Knowledge of principles for ethical research involving humans and animals;
• Confidence in evaluating scientific rigor and integrity of manuscripts;
• A strong familiarity with the medical research community and relevant organizations;
• Ability to manage relationships with authors, peer reviewers, editors, and other colleagues;
• Someone who acts with integrity and accountability;
• An inquisitive nature, maintaining current knowledge related to developments and trends in respective areas of expertise;
• Ability to make informed decisions synthesizing information from a wide range of sources;
• Strong critical thinking skills and confidence to make decisions;
• Thorough and detail oriented.

Location:

• This role is based in Auckland, New Zealand and has the flexibility to work from home a few days a week.However, training will be carried out in the office and a hybrid working arrangement will only be introduced once a sufficient level of independent working is achieved.
• Relocation support is not provided for this role.
