Te Manu Toroa Looking for Clinical Community Service Manager at Tauranga Central, Bay of Plenty Full Time

Te Manu Toroa (‘the albatross which glides the ocean’) (TMT), originally known as Western Iwi Health, was established in 1997 to provide a Kaupapa model of health care that linked and integrated services to Māori in the Mai Ngā Kuri-a-Wharei ki Otamarakau rohe (the Western Bay of Plenty).

Te Manu Toroa has two GP clinics: Tauranga Moana City Clinic, in Gate pa and Te Akau Hauora based in Papamoa with an enrolled patient and client population of around 10,000.

Te Manu Toroa is a member of Ngā Mataapuna Oranga PHO which is a Whānau Ora Collective of six provider members and three contracted providers promoting whānau health and wellbeing in the Western Bay of Plenty region.

Our Kaupapa is to improve the well-being of Māori through an accessible and affordable Māori health service available to all, including non-Māori.

The Clinical Community Services Manager is a management role, reporting to the Whānau Care Group Manager – Primary, Community and Whare Oranga.

The key focus of the role is to provide clinical and team leadership and management to the Clinical Community Service team with the aim to improve the circumstances of high needs whānau/families that may be at risk of achieving good health, education, and welfare outcomes.

Your clinical and management background will help support your teams to deliver clinically safe, community based, effective, holistic, culturally appropriate, and responsive services to Pepe, Tai Tamariki, Rangatahi, Kuia and Kaumatua and their whānau, ensuring improved health, development, education and welfare outcomes.

This is a full-time position, working 40 hours weekly (Monday to Friday). However, hours are negotiable, and we’re open to discussing how we can work around important life commitments (such as family) for the successful candidate. 

Essential:

• A clinical background, with relevant qualification(s) – i.e., Registered Nurse with a current annual practising certificate as a Registered Nurse with Nursing Council NZ
• Post Graduate Qualification in Nursing, Health Sciences, Health Leadership or Health Management
• Previous experience as a Senior Nursing Clinician with experience in community Māori Health
• Confident in Tikanga Māori with knowledge of the articles and principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and demonstrated ability to build relationships with Mana Whenua
• Knowledge and experience working in complex health settings with internal and external community stakeholders
• A high level of emotional intelligence and empathy for whānau
• Excellent communication and relationship management skills
• Confident in writing timely reports, policies, and procedures
• Strong team player, particularly in the context of a multi-disciplinary, cross-sector partnership environment.
• Highly organised and able to manage and prioritise work, including managing stakeholder expectations.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of te reo Māori me ngā tikanga with a deep understanding of Māori culture and values, alongside strong iwi networks.
• Knowledge and experience of Māori models, frameworks, and modalities of health care.
• Mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge) Qualifications.
• Knowledge of issues and challenges in the nursing and allied health profession and workforce.
• Knowledge and skills in quality improvement, data analysis and document management.
