Salary Band – $102,146 to $112,863 p.a. pro rata + Kiwisaver
We are looking for a positive and proactive Midwife Clinical Coach to support our busy and hardworking team within the Maternity Unit at Southland Hospital.
Mō te tūranga | About the role
The Midwife Clinical Coach is responsible for promoting a learning environment within the clinical setting that encourages and supports development of midwifery clinical skills and knowledge. The role provides practical clinical education in the workplace, demonstrating effective, evidence informed and culturally safe practice. You will work closely with new graduate midwives (MFYP), new staff to the maternity service or clinical area, international midwives joining the team, along with midwives on the ‘Return to Practice’ (RTP) programme, to support their transition to confident practitioners in the clinical setting. You will also be able to work with midwives who need to refresh their clinical skills or knowledge during a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).
This diverse role will see you have a variety of responsibilities and be involved in a number of different tasks. You will be responsible for providing new staff with a robust orientation to the service, practical one-to-one support as needed, right through to working closely with the tertiary education providers to develop relationships with new graduate midwives, and assisting in the development of the midwifery new graduate programme.

This part time role is best suited to a person who models exceptional team collaboration, clinical expertise, and is effortless in their accessibility to the team as a recognised resource of information. You will be able to develop strong working relationships allowing you to collaborate effectively with the Midwife Educators, Managers and the Senior Midwifery team.
Your personality will such that you are naturally able to support, provide encouragement and motivation to all midwives and maternity nurses in the assessment, planning and implementation of care of mothers and babies.

Utu whānui |Salary range
This role falls under the terms and conditions of the expired DHBs / MERAS Multi-Employer Collective Agreement (1 February 2021 – 30 April 2023), and the salary will be in accordance with the Midwives’ Pay Equity Claim Memorandum of Understanding interim payment rates, Senior Midwives Salary Scale Grade 4, between Step 1 and Step 3, $102,146 to $112,863 per annum, pro rata.
