The Role

The Software Engineer role is responsible for delivering high quality code in a timely manner, while working with the technical lead to design solutions as appropriate.

Working in an agile environment, you will provide technical expertise and support to other team members while delivering software to established quality standards, according to the agreed requirements, technical specifications, and acceptance test criteria.

Key Responsibilities

• Participate in the whole software development lifecycle, from concept to release and support.
• Write high-quality code, according to agreed standards, with adequate unit, integration and automation test coverage.
• Participate in code reviews for all work completed; give and take feedback constructively.
• Identify areas of technical debt and refactor code to improve maintainability where appropriate.
• Troubleshoot issues and fix bugs found in the code.
• Actively participate in all the practices that the agile development team engages in, including daily stand-up, sprint planning, backlog refinement and retrospectives.
• Collaborate with all members of the agile development team.
• Raise risks and issues as appropriate.
• Suggest ways to improve team processes or introduce new practices where beneficial.
• Contribute to the overall architecture of the system by applying frameworks and software development patterns as appropriate by working with other developers and leads.
• Perform Object Oriented Design for software as required by identifying key components and applying SOLID design principles.
• Contribute to database design, ensuring that the data model is functional, simple, consistent and normalised.
• Communicate system design where necessary with appropriate use of diagrams and concise technical documentation.
• Consider how systems are hosted in both test and production environments.
• Participate in design spikes, development of prototypes and proof-of-concept work as required.

What You’ll Bring

• Minimum of 6 years commercial experience in software development for the web
• Web development using HTML, CSS/LESS, Javascript and TypeScript
• Good understanding of AngularJS/Angular framework
• .NET development using C# and WebAPI
• Understanding of build systems and Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (preferably Azure)
• Front-end build and packaging systems
• Database design and implementation using SQL Server
• Knowledge of Entity Framework and data access technologies in .NET
• Knowledge of software design principles and patterns
• Knowledge of cloud hosting concepts, components and available resources
• Distributed source control using GIT repositories and associated practices
• Test-driven development (TDD) and associated testing frameworks (NUnit, xUnit, MSTest)
• Knowledge of agile software development principles and practices, experience working in an agile development team
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Commercial experience with Inversion of Control and Dependency Injection (IoC/DI) frameworks
