Our Software Engineering team plays a key role in the success of Telstra’s IT Strategy where persistent cross functional teams continuously innovate their domain capability with rapid time to value and high re-usability.

About the role

We are looking for Software Engineering Specialist, your role centres on collaborating with your team to deliver Software Engineering products and solutions that delight our customers. You play a key role in helping to understand needs of Telstra customers, design, build, deploy and support the solution. We use cutting edge technologies and continue to innovate to in our journey. Your teamwork and collaboration skills, continuous learning and improvement mindset, and ability to adapt to feedback are critical to success in this role.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy and operate products and services produced by the team.
• Understanding functional requirements thoroughly and analysing the customer needs in the context of the project
• Review and integrate all application requirements, including functional, security, integration, performance, quality, and operations requirements.
• Apply engineering best practices such as Agile, CI/CD, and DevOps as part of a high performing motivated team. You will come across various tools to drive automation and can contribute to enhance.
• Continually develops capability both against current demand and the technology/business capability roadmaps provided
• Writing and reviewing great quality code
• Implement all application requirements, including functional, security, integration, performance, quality, and operations requirements.
• Flexible to work on new features and developments, to provide production support in the production and pre-production environments as team. Working with own team and cross-team on solving complex problems
• Being able to support UAT and production roll outs.
• Addressing issues promptly, responding positively to setbacks and challenges with a mindset of continuous improvement.
• Carrying out POCs to make sure that suggested design/technologies meet the requirements.
• Envisioning the overall solution for defined functional and non-functional requirements, and being able to define technologies, patterns, and frameworks to realize it.
• Determining and implementing design methodologies and tool sets
• Enabling application development by coordinating requirements, schedules, and activities.
• Creating, understanding, and validating WBS and estimated effort for given module/task, and being able to justify it.

To thrive in this role, we are looking for candidates with the following experience and skills:

Minimum 1 year of experience in the following technologies

Front-end technologies

• Experience in HTML, JavaScript programming, React JS/Angular JS
• CSS, jQuery / Backbone.js, Grunt, Gulp, and Bower and Jest / Unit Testing

Back-end technologies

• Must have experience in Node.js, Java
• Experience in MySQL / MongoDB / Oracle, Nginx
• REST API design and development
• Express.js / Ruby on Rails, etc., Java

Ideally, you’ll also have:

• Experience with cloud technologies (e.g., AWS/ Azure/GCP)
• Experience in Agile, DevOps and Infrastructure.

What you’ll bring

• Strong understanding of algorithms, data structures and system design
• Ability to develop front end website architecture and back-end website applications
• Ability to multitask and having strong attention to detail.
• Excellent time-management, Problem-solving and project management skills
• Good communication skills

Desirable skills:

• Domain knowledge of Telecom.
• Secure coding practices
• Jira, Bamboo, Linux shell, Docker and Apigee
