The Role

This is the perfect role for someone who would love a challenge, you will be a critical player brought on to further develop Telstra’s digital applications suite with new capabilities. You will be the person see and lean on as the subject matter expert in web and API development. You will be working within a high functioning team consisting of product managers, Independent Software Vendors, and peer groups across Telstra. Additionally, you will be in charged with supporting multiple applications throughout the entire software development lifecycle, including design, development, test support and production support / lifecycle maintenance.

The Digital Software Engineering group is a large group of agile teams, and as such, we place a lot of emphasis on ‘cultural fit’. The candidate must be able to show various qualities that will enable them to fit and grow in a high-performing, critical thinking team. E.g. pro-activeness, willingness to challenge, thinking outside the box, excellent communication skills, highly motivated, strong product ownership and a passion for the technology and mobile space.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, test, deploy and maintain software for the team to deliver solutions for our business partners.
• Ensuring and improving the quality and integrity of the platform in delivering solutions for our business partners.
• Promoting the use of automation to achieve re-usable services to enable lower cost-effective solutions to be delivered more rapidly to improve customer satisfaction
• Ensuring re-use or build of best-fit software solutions on time and budget for business partners.
• Ensuring the ongoing quality of our delivered solutions – production stability is our priority.
• Actively contributing to the definition of solutions and assessment of ideas, utilising deep experience in online technologies.
• Minimising outcome risks by accurately and continually estimating and reporting on progress and potential impediments to success.
• Maintain a very high level of capability in software engineering, including new and emerging technologies, tools, approaches, and processes so that you can model continuous learning and actively provide coaching and mentoring of other software engineering team members.
• Actively collaborate with the security team, to foster and model a security first mindset and apply the organization’s security strategy across multiple teams. Be able to guide teams through these processes and continuously improve this culture
• Work across teams to foster an architecture that enables iterative, autonomous development and future scaling.

About you

• Solid experience working in an Operational and/or Engineering role and have expertise with a variety of deployment, automation, and configuration management tools.
• Strong experience with APIs and algorithms
• Practical experience with capability development, cloud native development, code review, defensive coding, secure coding
• Experience with Test management and automation
• Practical experience with Continuous Integration and Delivery pipelines. Enhancing and improving CI/CD capabilities to reduce cycle time while retaining quality
• Experience in delivering projects as part of an agile team.
• Willingness to learn new technologies and keen to drive innovation
• Excellent written and verbal communication, problem solving and time management skills
• Strong coaching, critical thinking, and influencing skills

Essential Experience

• Critical Telstra specific domain knowledge.
• Key strategic TSE skills
  • Languages – Java, Kotlin, Python
  • Cloud – PCF, AWS
  • API gateway – Apigee
  • Framework – spring boot, maven gradle
  • Logging/Monitoring – Splunk and New Relic
  • Database – PostgreSQL, Oracle and MySQL
• Experience in implementing and using continuous integration & delivery methods
• Demonstrated experience in Agile methodology
• Deep appreciation of platform architecture and technology
• Manage and mentor
