Cells are the common denominator for every Tesla product. In the Abuse Testing & Engineering group, we push battery systems to their limits and beyond using specialized equipment to apply electrical, mechanical, and thermal stresses. Our goal is to provide rapid feedback to inform designs early in development, by understanding how robust systems perform under abusive conditions. We accommodate external regulations but have a strong focus on internal requirements and testing to failure. Every Tesla battery product comes through our lab, both vehicles and energy storage. The Abuse Testing and Engineering team is looking for a Full Stack Software and/or Data Engineer to support our field analysis and development efforts for a rapidly growing fleet and product portfolio. You will work with large scale structured and unstructured data, develop web tools that help non data engineers to analyze field issues more efficiently and accurately as well as do ad-hoc data deep dives when necessary.

The responsibilities of this role require both data engineering and full stack knowledge to be successful, however prior experience in only of of those is sufficient if excited to learn about the other.

What You’ll Do
Build web applications that enable engineers to analyze telemetry data from a wide variety of data sources.

Develop automatic diagnostic tools for early detecting and reporting of issues utilizing Tesla’s fleet data.

Support internal teams with complex ad-hoc data analytics to better understand and improve our products.

Maintain multiple MySQL databases and support the team’s effort to migrate and automate data structures from other locations.

Do statistical analysis on various parameters for all our products to help inform the company about patterns and quickly detect outliers.

Analyze the need for new applications or enhancements to the existing applications to suit business needs and make decisions if they are needed or not.

What You’ll Bring

• Proficiency in modern text-based programming languages (Python, Javascript, etc.)
• Experience in data engineering and/or full stack knowledge
• Proficiency in using and maintaining database systems (SQL)
• Ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams and deal directly with stakeholders
• Demonstrated experience with building and deploying data pipelines (e.g. Kafka, Airflow), REST APIs (e.g. FastAPI)
• Experience with Git or other source control software
• Experience with continuous integration and deployment tools (e.g. Docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes) is a plus
• Experience in Big Data Structures, Automotive, Li-ion Batteries, or Abuse Testing is a plus

Expected Compensation

$80,000 – $258,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
