Direct Support Professionals are responsible for providing support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. In this role you will offer guidance, hands-on assistance, instruction, and implement individuals’ support plans to help program participants attain independence and integration in the community.
Schedule: Sunday-Thursday 3pm-11pm (40 hr/week)
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Assist program participants with personal care and hygiene as needed, including but not limited to: toileting, transfers, change dining, showering, dressing, and grooming.
Provide light to medium maintenance/domestic functions associated with residential programs, including, but not limited to: cleaning, laundry, cooking, grocery shopping, shoveling snow, and grounds keeping duties as assigned.
Maintain positive, professional relationships with individuals served, families/guardians, peers, community partners and government agencies and assists in the implementation of Individual Support
Plans based on assessments, objectives, and goals.
Actively advocates for individuals served and demonstrates agency mission and values in all interpersonal and professional relations.
Knowledgeable about community resources to better assist individuals served in achieving their goals while seeking to empower and enhance their quality of life.
Adhere to confidentiality requirements in all assigned duties.
Attend mandatory trainings and meetings and maintain all required certifications.
Accurately coding and/or reporting time and services delivered for timely reimbursement from funders.
Respect the human dignity and uniqueness of the people you support. Recognize each person you support as valuable and help others understand their value. Affirm the human rights, civil rights and responsibilities
of the people you support.
Acts as a member of the integrated team, providing feedback, suggestions, etc. for program plans. Assists, as requested, in assessment and evaluation of individual’s needs and abilities.
Maintains a safe and sanitary environment for the individuals served and ensures timely reporting of facility, equipment maintenance, or replacement needs.
Meets all recordkeeping and documentation requirements providing clear and legible documentation records as required by The Arc and government agencies.
Operate motor vehicles as required for agency operations. Provide automobile or van transportation for individuals and/or accompany them on trips using public transportation.
As required, establishes and maintains controls for health needs including administering authorized and required medications. May be required to accompany participants to seek medical attention on either an
emergency or planned basis.
Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED is required, experience in relevant field preferred.
A valid driver’s license is required.
Acceptable CORI/Finger printing and driving record are required at all times during employment with The Arc of Opportunity.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.; kneel, bend and carry items; and sustain periods of walking, standing, and sitting.
Ability to physically assist individuals according to their needs and perform physical restraint if necessary.
Superior communication skills, both in verbal and written English.
Functional and situational reasoning to follow policy, problem solve, exercise sound judgment, prioritize multiple tasks, and manage crisis.
