Main Purpose and Function
The Marina Attendant is required to provide information and service to marina patrons, perform custodial, operational and, on occasion, cashiering tasks, and carry out simple repair and maintenance duties in a large public marina. The Marina Attendant is periodically called upon to operate the marina work boat and to assist boat owners in moving and mooring boats. This position is also required to clean walkways, pilings and docks and maintain a level of general cleanliness throughout the marina facility including waste and recycling areas.
This is auxiliary work that requires availability on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Operates all marine tools and equipment and performs simple repair and maintenance tasks on marina facilities
Provides information and service to marina patrons; may collect fees and issue receipts
Patrols the marina daily to check boats, floats and mooring lines, and reports to the Supervisor any damage to boats or facilities or any dangerous or abnormal situations
Removes and disposes of floating debris and deadheads from water using the marina work boat
Cleans docks with high pressure water hose and scrapes growth along the water line of docks and floats
Completes temporary and emergency repairs to docks, floats, ramps and fences
Scrapes and paints fireboxes, wheelbarrows and related marine equipment as required
Operates and maintains the marina boat and motor
Basic janitorial and maintenance duties as required when Building Service Worker is unavailable
Performs any related work that may arise in the marine environment as needed
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
Completion of the tenth school grade
Some experience in public recreation operations is preferred
Pleasure Craft Operator Card or equivalent is required
Marine ROC (Radio Operator Certificate) is an asset
Basic Marine First Aid is an asset
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the methods, practices and equipment used in the operation of a large public marina
Working knowledge of Park Board policy and procedures relative to marina operation
Working knowledge of Marine Regulations applicable to marina operations and of small boat operation, maintenance, servicing and storage
Ability to carry out maintenance, repair and cleaning tasks on marina facilities and equipment
Ability to deal effectively with the public
Ability to handle cash and give receipts
Skill in the use of tools and equipment used in marina operation
Skill in operating a small boat and motor
