Description

The Cleveland Museum of Art seeks a temporary, full-time assistant registrar from July 6 to October 7, 2022. This individual will assume and manage multiple in-process projects related to special exhibitions, reporting to and under the guidance of the Registrar for Exhibitions and Rights and Reproductions. This individual will facilitate incoming loans to the Cleveland Museum of Art’s exhibition program. This person will also maintain lender correspondence, facilitate loan contracts, schedule incoming and outgoing shipments in coordination with Registrar for Exhibitions, maintain art transportation budget, and document artwork packing and shipments.

Requirements and Key Competencies

• Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university and preferably an MA in Art History or Museum Studies; one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Employee should possess good organizational, interpersonal, typing, computer and research skills, as well as the ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines and work on several different projects simultaneously if needed. Prior knowledge of art history and experience in handling art helpful, as well as previous experience with word processing software and copy and fax machines.
• The employee must also be able to communicate effectively and work successfully with others.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates incoming loans to the Cleveland Museum of Art’s exhibition program
• Maintains lender correspondence
• Facilitates loan contracts
• Schedules incoming and outgoing shipments in coordination with Registrar for Exhibitions
• Maintains art transportation budget
• Documents artwork packing and shipments
• Maintains exhibition records in collections management database
• Liaises with multiple departments in support of the exhibition loans and schedules
• Supports collections management team in fulfillment of departmental goals and responsibilities
