The Oak Openings Restoration Crew Member performs ecological restoration and management activities on TNC, partner, and private properties in the Oak Openings Region of Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan.
The Oak Openings Restoration Crew Member performs ecological restoration and management activities in the Oak Openings Region of Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. This will include invasive plant control by using herbicide and mechanical methods, shrub and tree removal, and may include native seed collecting, mowing, litter clean-up. The Crew Member will be responsible for preparation and maintenance of equipment and tools used in restoration activities. Oak Openings Restoration Crew Members will be supervised by the Oak Openings Restoration Coordinator and the Kitty Todd Preserve Manager and will also be overseen by the Oak Openings Restoration Manager. This is a full-time (35-40 hr/wk), short-term position (~6 months) that involves extensive outdoor physical labor in diverse weather conditions. Preference will be given to applicants with experience applying herbicide to control invasive plants, native seed collecting, and using gas-powered tools such as chainsaws and brushcutters, and experience driving ATVs and UTVs. Willingness to obtain Commercial Pesticide Applicator Licenses in Ohio and Michigan is required. The base of operations is the Kitty Todd Nature Preserve in Swanton, Ohio. However, Crew Members will divide into teams working in Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan; please indicate if you have a work location preference in your cover letter.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a valid driver’s license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program. Employment in this position will be contingent upon completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of the prospective employee’s motor vehicle record.
This is an hourly position that pays $15 – $17 per hour.
