Why did you become an engineer?
This is the question that I ask most candidates I speak to everyday. One of the most popular answers is “to solve exciting problems which affect everyday people” across the board.
Whatever industry you may have worked with in the past – you would have worked on a product/service which affects everyone. This could have been finance, or it could have been medical or the open internet. Either way you have built a product which has an impact.
However somewhere along the way you have gotten lost of that mission and motivation. Maybe you have been stuck on the same old project for months, stuck under bureaucracy which does not allow your creative juices to flow. Maybe you worked at a Start-up where there was no plan, and your team was just not organised.
You crave to be more in control – but you also want to have security.

About the Role
SWAT Engineers are the type of individuals who enjoy dynamic problem solving and rapidly delivering customer value. From identifying performance issues to recommending architectural changes to shipping quick fixes, this is truly a full stack role. You will advocate for change at an enterprise level working across our entire codebase and with different engineering teams to address high urgency issues. In this job, you will also create tooling and/or processes that help identify and remediate issues. On SWAT we end every day getting things done.
Who We are Looking For
- Care deeply about improving customer experience, whether internal or external.
- Have a desire to chase down problems, find the root cause and work with stakeholders to creatively find the optimal solution.
- Be comfortable operating outside of areas of expertise and be ready to constantly learn.
- Have the ability to understand highly technical issues and communicate them to people with no technical background
**NICE TO HAVES:**
- C#, Java, Scala, Python, Javascript, Angular or React Experience
- Experience in database technologies (e.g. Vertica, MSSQL, Aerospike, Redis, Postgres) and performance analysis – Experience working with monitoring and alerting systems (e.g. Sumo, NewRelic, Grafana)
Apart from this we believe in culture. Culture to us is not just cool snacks and PlayStation (even though we have that). To us culture is about giving everyone a chance to have a say and contribute – allowing people to pursue their projects and collaborate in a global scale. It also means not scheduling 8 pm meetings and understanding boundaries (which have seemed to have disappeared for some during covid).
