Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
The Faculty of Business & Economics is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join us on 12-month fixed-term contracts from 1 February 2024.
This Postdoctoral Fellowship provides the opportunity for an emerging researcher, following the completion of their degree, to gain further experience under the scientific supervision the co-director of the Centre for Mathematical Social Science. The Fellowship may be extended or transitioned into other academic roles on completion of the 12-month period.
This is an exciting opportunity for an emerging researcher who shows the desire to develop a research agenda on the ‘Infodemic Project’ coordinated by Dr Simona Fabrizi, within the Centre for Mathematical Social Science. They will be joining a team of experts interested in exploring the connection between mis- and dis-information, trust in institutions, and other key factors in determining (i) the effectiveness of the response to public policy measures, for instance, (i.a) for the uptake of vaccination following a pandemic, or (i.b) the mitigation and adaptation strategies to combat adverse climate change consequences, or exploring (ii) the resilience of democracies and institutions in the face of strategic manipulation of information, including with the advent of AI.
This is a fulltime (40 hours per week), fixed term (12 months) opportunity.
The salary range is $88,616 – $93,296 and will be dependent on experience.

All academics within the Faculty of Business & Economics are based in Disciplinary Areas that form part of larger academic departments. During their tenure, the fellow will contribute to the Economic Theory & Policy and Applied Economics & Econometrics as their disciplinary areas. They will be engaged in preparing, and submitting research papers and grant applications, presenting their research to their peers and support the objectives and the advancement of the ‘Infodemic Project’ within the Centre for Mathematical Social Science.

It recognises the exciting challenges posed by the concerns of our age. He kōrero mōu | About you
You will hold a PhD specialising over at least two of the following subject areas: Quantitative Economics, Econometrics, Statistics, and Data Science. You have research experience relevant to this role, and a demonstrated emerging publication track record. Furthermore, you showcase expertise in data manipulation and visualisation, strong quantitative research skills, and coding proficiency, along with the ability to effectively convey scientific findings to both academic and non-academic audiences.
