The Wallich is a homelessness charity delivering innovative housing and support services to homeless and vulnerably housed people. The Organisation formed in 1978 in Cardiff and now supports around 8000 people a year across Wales.
The Wallich is committed to providing services that are trauma informed and delivered using Psychologically Informed Environments (PIE) approach that places relationships at the heart of everything. A PIE is an approach to supporting people out of homelessness whilst making significant and positive progress in overcoming trauma, substance misuse and mental illness. It also considers the psychological needs of staff: developing skills and knowledge, increasing motivation, job satisfaction and resilience. At the heart of what we do are the people we support, who are actively and meaningfully involved in their own support and encouraged to participate in the design, development, and delivery of services.
The Asset Coach will be based with the PIE Operational Team at The Wallich and will be the first person in the organisation use the innovative PTS (Person-led, Transitional & Strengths-based) Response model. This will be provided in partnership with its developer, Mayday Trust, and Welsh provider, Platfform. The principles of the PTS are:
Seeing people: People are people, not labels such as ‘the homeless’, ‘drug addicts’ or ‘ex-offenders.
Person-led: The mantra is no steps, no stairs, and no pathways. Instead, people have choice and control over their lives to achieve what they want at a time that is right for them.
Strength-based: Concentrating on a person’s strengths and removing the focus from weakness.
Personalised: A response that works for the individual and recognises that each person’s unique experience will be different.
Not fixing: People are listened to and can make their own decisions on what they want to achieve.
Internal motivation: People have opportunities to build confidence and self-belief by exploring aspirations and building evidence of their success.
Real-world: Creating relationships based on honesty and reflecting the nature of the world outside of services.
Connection: People can explore friendship, community, and connection outside of services to reinvigorate a sense of purpose and identity.
The Asset Coach will walk alongside individuals experiencing challenging times, so they can take control of their life and thrive within their community. They will do this using a PTS (Person-led, Transitional & Strengths-based) Response model in partnership with its developer, Mayday Trust and Welsh provider, Platfform.
