Building Bridges Across the River (Building Bridges) provides residents East of the Anacostia River access to the best-in- class facilities, programs and partnerships in arts and culture, economic opportunity, education, recreation, health and well-being. Building Bridges Across the River (Building Bridges) envisions a future in which the residents East of the Anacostia River experience vital, thriving communities characterized by social, cultural, economic and racial equity. In order to combat past and current structural inequities, Building Bridges develops and manages facilities and programs in Wards 7 and 8 including the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC), THEARC Farm, THEARC Theater, 11th Street Bridge Park, and Skyland Workforce Center. Building Bridges first facility was THEARC, which at 203,000 square feet represents the largest social service, multisector, nonprofit collaboration in the country.

Position Overview:

The Welcome Desk Attendant is responsible for the lasting first impression of Building Bridges Across the River through an exceptional customer service-oriented approach and clear communication. This position supports all departments of Building Bridges, partners, and visitors

Building Bridges is looking for a pleasant Front Desk Representative to undertake all receptionist and clerical duties at the desk of our main entrance and Skyland Workforce Center Campus. This candidate will be the “face” of the organization for all visitors and will be responsible for the first impression we make. The goal is to make guests and visitors feel comfortable and valued while on our premises.

The ideal candidate will have a friendly and easy-going personality while also being very perceptive and disciplined. Candidate should be able to properly handle and manage complaints and give accurate information. Building Bridges is looking for someone who can work mornings, evenings and weekends as well as rotate between THEARC Campus and Skyland Workforce Center.

Responsibilities:

• Ensure marquee is functioning daily
• Keep the front desk clean, neat and organized with all necessary materials (pens, forms, paper etc.)
• Monitor office supplies and inform Office Manager when the volume is low
• Greet and welcome guests
• Answer questions and address minor complaints.
• Answer all incoming calls and redirect them accordingly/relay messages
• Receive/distribute Building Bridges and Partners’ mail, packages etc.
• Able to direct visitors to appropriate department representatives or partners
• Maintain clear communication with Partners
• Attend monthly partner meetings and record upcoming news/events
• Edit and distribute monthly newsletter for send out
• Disseminate campus information to Partners and Staff accordingly
• Take up other duties as assigned by Office Manager

Requirements:

• Proven experience as customer service representative, front desk representative, agent or relevant position
• Familiarity with office machines (e.g., fax, printer etc.)
• Proficient in English (oral and written)
• Excellent knowledge of MS Office (especially Excel and Word)
• Strong communication and people skills
• Good organizational and multi-tasking abilities
• Problem-solving skills
• Customer service orientation
• High School diploma: additional qualifications will be a plus
